On this stone for centuries the Scottish kings were crowned until Edward I. At Christmas 1950 the stone was stolen and recovered only after a long search. In 1996 it was officially returned to Scotland and has since been in the castle of Edinburgh. The stone is considered a symbol of the unity of the kingdoms of England and Scotland. In this chapel lie the coffins of Henry III., Edward I, Edward III., Richard II and Henry V.. UNESCO has declared 1987 the church to the world cultural heritage.
Westminster Cathedral is the main Catholic church of England and Wales. It is located in the City of Westminster. Archbishop Wiseman (1802-1865) began with the fundraising for the new cathedral. He was the first Roman Catholic cardinal and archbishop in England after the Reformation. But only in 1895 could be started construction. The Cathedral was opened in 1903.
They decided to build for the Byzantine style. From the outside, the building boasts the lavish brick facade, its high dome and not least by the width completely untypical for this free-standing bell tower. Inside, they surprised by the spaciousness, and especially by the mosaics on the ceilings and walls, which are constantly supplemented. In the Holy Souls Chapel in the aisle more than 100 different types of marble were used.
