Yearly Salutes are fired on 6 February (the day of accession to the throne), and on 21 April (Queen’s Birthday), and on 2 June (Coronation Day) and also on 10 June (the birthday of the Duke of Edinburgh). If the dates fall on a Sunday then the guns salutes are fired on the following day. At 12 o’ clock 41 Shots are fired by the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery in Hyde Park and followed at 1 o’ clock by firing from the Honourable Artillery Company and also 62 shots at the Tower of London. Gun salutes are also done for the flag parade and the opening of Parliament as well.
Shakespeare’s Birthday Celebrations around 23 April each year are held on a Saturday, at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre by the River Thames. A classical music festival is at Hampton Court Palace in early to mid-June. The City of London Festival is celebrated with music, theater and dance from late June to mid July in various locations. BBC Promenade concerts (The Proms) are available from July to September in the Royal Albert Hall.
The Notting Hill Carnival, Europe’s largest street carnival with Caribbean flair, takes place in late August in Notting Hill. In September there is the Thames Festival of arts, sports, and events take place on the river between Waterloo and Blackfriars Bridge. Annually on the first Sunday in October in the Church of St. Martin in the Fields there is the Harvest Thanksgiving Service.
